What's Happening at the Y

Winter Youth Basketball

Registration: September 22-November 8

Ages: 3 – 14

Season: Practice begins week of November 30, games begin December 12, 2015

YMCA basketball leagues are designed to teach players the basic skills of their sport while introducing them to healthy competition. Basketball encourages team play and individual skill development while having fun. Participants will learn new skills and make friends along the way. Each team will practice once per week and have weekly Saturday games for an eight game season. Participants will receive a game jersey.

Members: $38
Non-members: $68
$15 late fee November 9-16)

30+ Adult Basketball Nights

Here’s your chance to dust off your basketball shoes and come out the new Downtown YMCA’s 30+ Basketball League! Our goal in the adult sports leagues is to provide a perfect opportunity to be active, social and reconnect or start fresh with a sport you love. See you at Tip-Off!

If minimum of 10 to play is not reached, there is the option to receive a program credit to the following week. System credits will be issued if game play does not occur and participant cannot play the following week. Games will consist of referee and score boards.

Registration: online registration closes the Saturday prior to each game. Please register at the front desk after this time.

Days: Monday nights beginning August 17, 6-9 p.m.

Cost: $5 for YMCA members, $15 for non-members



LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a free, 12-week, small group program designed for adult cancer survivors.

This program fulfills the important need of supporting cancer survivors in our community. They will work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to safely achieve their goals such as building strength; increasing flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem. By focusing on the whole person and not the disease, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is helping people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body.

This program is free to participants and is funded by generous donors to the YMCA’s Annual Campaign.

Youth Swim Lessons

Youth Swim Lessons

Ages: 3 – 12 years

These lessons follow the YMCA of the USA Progressive Swim Lesson Program. There are six levels of progressively challenging YMCA swim classes covering all strokes and safety skills. Lessons are offered during the weekdays as well as the weekends.

The purpose of the Y Swim Lessons Program is to develop competency in swimming along with confidence and endurance.  The goals of the program are to teach personal safety, personal growth and stroke development in a values-based environment.  Your child will be advanced to the next level only when he or she proficiently and safely performs the skills within his or her level. We teach individually to each child to advance their skills. We expect each child to learn and progress at his or her own rate.

Registration: Registration for weekday lessons opens three Thursdays prior to session start date for members and two Thursdays prior to session start date for non-members. Registration for Saturday lessons opens three weeks before session start date for members and two weeks for non-members.

Home School Swim and Gym

Ages: 4-14

The Home School Swim & Gym program is a great way to work physical activity, healthy living, socialization and play into your homeschool curriculum. The goal of swim and gym classes for students is to have planned individual and cooperative physical activity and fitness assessments promoting the students’ optimum physical, mental, emotional, and social development. Participants will also learn sports and swimming skills while developing social relationships.

Fit Camp

This high intensity group exercise class will take you to the next fitness level. High energy, intense cardio and strength training is guaranteed to boost your energy and metabolism to new heights. Easy-to-follow step moves, plyometric moves, circuit training, jump rope, running drills, abdominal work and push-ups. Get more fit than you ever dreamed! This four-week program is designed to get you in shape and lose weight and is appropriate for all fitness levels.

Martial Arts

Dan Bernardo will be teaching the traditional Korean Martial Art of Tang Soo Do. Tang Soo Do is the Korean expression of Okinawan “Tode”, which is pronounced “Karate” in Japanese. Although the core of our curriculum is self-defense, we don’t just teach kicking and punching. Come learn traditional Korean Karate and set your GOALS high.

My Fit Program

My Fit Program

My Fit is a suite of services to help members learn, grow and thrive. It is a multi-step program to meet your needs, whether for fitness, inspiration or nutrition. We’ll help you develop life-promoting habits. Powered by MobileFit! A new, easy-to-use system to help you reach your health goals.


Among the various fitness programs offered at the YMCA of Columbia, SmartStart stands out by taking a unique approach to being more healthy. These one on one sessions combine nutritional information and fitness with coach support to encourage participants to meet their goals. 3 sessions: FREE

Healthy Eating:

Healthy Eating includes three sessions with a Healthy Living Coach to identify potential roadblocks to healthy eating. Participants learn how to use the MobileFit Nutrition application to track calories, nutrition, water consumption and will also learn how to use to support healthy eating. 3 sessions: $49

Personal Training:

Get one-on-one fitness training with a nationally certified trainer. Designed to evaluate, motivate, and educate so that you get the most out of every workout. Your trainer will provide motivation to help you meet your goal, train for a sport, get ready for a special event, or just increase your level of health. Our qualified trainers will evaluate your current fitness level and design a specific program for you based on your goals. For new personal training participants only. Six 30-minute sessions: $99



What is MobileFit?
MobileFit is a web-based group of tools designed to support our My Fit series of programs.

How do I get started on MobileFit?
It’s easy to get started using MobileFit by registering for one of the three My Fit programs: SmartStart, Healthy Eating or Personal Training. Coaches will enroll participants during their first session.

How can I access MobileFit once I am enrolled?
Choose one of the many options to access MobileFit; there are touchscreens in your local branch; to print a custom workout and log your results: download the MobileFit App for free on an iPhone; access MobileFit from other smart phones through; or access on your iPad or tablet.

Personal Training

Get one-on-one fitness training with a nationally certified trainer. Looking for an advantage? Personal training is designed to evaluate, motivate, and educate so that you can take your workout to the next level. Your trainer will provide motivation to help you meet your goal; whether it is training for a sport, getting ready for a special event, or improving your health, personal training will help you meeting your goal.
