The Downtown YMCA has been a cornerstone in Columbia’s community for over 150 years. With six floors of exercise equipment, aquatics, an extensive group exercise schedule, men’s and women’s training areas, and much more, the Downtown YMCA is ideal for the fitness minded.

ZUMBAthon: “Dance for a Cause”

Date: Saturday, January 17, 2015

Time: 10 a.m. – noon

It’s a Fitness Party™ that will be raising funds and awareness for the YMCA’s Annual Campaign. Funds raised will specifically support the LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program (a 12-week wellness program for cancer survivors). YMCA Zumba® instructors from across the city will dance for two hours for non-stop fun for all levels of fitness. Dance to help cancer survivors in your community!

Location: Downtown YMCA, 1420 Sumter St.

Cost: $10/$5 students

It’s Game Time

More Soccer. More Fun. More Value. The South Carolina United FC YMCA Recreational Youth Soccer League serves nearly 5,000 Midlands youth who compete at six different venues throughout greater Columbia. Soccer encourages team play and individual skill development while having fun. Available for girls and boy, ages 4-18. Each team is guaranteed 7 out of 8 scheduled League Matches, weather permitting.

SEASON: March 7 – May 9, 2015

Practice begins week of February 23.

Register by February 1, 2015.

PLEASE NOTE:  Fall 2014 marked the first of the next four seasons in which the League’s new Uniform Kit must be purchased and worn by all registered players. If you are new to our club, please realize that once you have purchased the kit for $25 during the online registration process, your child will wear this same uniform kit for the Fall 2014, Spring 2015, Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 seasons.  Please take the potential growth of your child over the next 30 months into account when placing your child’s uniform order.

Winter Break Camp

Bring your kids to the Y over winter break! We’ll discover new things while participating in holiday-themed activities.

There will be a drop-off & pickup option at the Downtown YMCA, 1420 Sumter St. Register for the Downtown dropoff here.

Pickup times for Downtown: 5-6:15 p.m.

Two week camp: December 22, 2014 – January 2, 2015 (except December 24-25 & December 31-January 1)
Note: No-school days January 5 and 6 will be included in regular Afterschool fees.

Ages: 5-12

Preregistration is required to attend.

Times: Drop off starts at 7 a.m. and pick up by 6 p.m.

Cost: $105 members/$155 non-members

Adult Co-ed Basketball

Adult Basketball is a fast-paced, values-based competitive league. It’s a great way to keep fit, share fellowship and have recreational fun. Each team plays 7 games with a single elimination playoff. Teams should be between 7 and 14 players. Team shirts are not provided by the YMCA (sponsors are welcomed). Register your team now!

Ages: 17 & up

Season: January 19 – March 14, 2015

Games: Saturdays

Home School Swim and Gym

Ages: 4-13

Home schooled youth can enjoy the many opportunities the Y has to offer. Certified, passionate, and enthusiastic instructors will teach your child more fundamentals to physical activities with lessons involving team concepts, sports development, swimming skills and so much more. The program will follow core values of the Y (caring, respect, responsibility, honesty, and faith).

March 9 – May 4

Day & Time: Mondays, 1-4 p.m.

Cost:
Members: $55
Non-members: $75
(Sibling rate is $45/$65. You must register at the front desk to receive the sibling discount.)

It is a multi-step program to meet your needs, whether for fitness, inspiration or nutrition. We’ll help you develop life-promoting habits. Powered by MobileFit! A new, easy-to-use system to help you reach your health goals.

SmartStart:

Among the various fitness programs offered at the YMCA of Columbia, SmartStart stands out by taking a unique approach to being more healthy. These one on one sessions combine nutritional information and fitness with coach support to encourage participants to meet their goals. 3 sessions: FREE

Healthy Eating:

Healthy Eating includes three sessions with a Healthy Living Coach to identify potential roadblocks to healthy eating. Participants learn how to use the MobileFit Nutrition application to track calories, nutrition, water consumption and will also learn how to use www.choosemyplate.gov to support healthy eating. 3 sessions: $49

Personal Training:

Get one-on-one fitness training with a nationally certified trainer. Designed to evaluate, motivate, and educate so that you get the most out of every workout. Your trainer will provide motivation to help you meet your goal, train for a sport, get ready for a special event, or just increase your level of health. Our qualified trainers will evaluate your current fitness level and design a specific program for you based on your goals. For new personal training participants only. 3 sessions: $99

What is MobileFit?
MobileFit is a web-based group of tools designed to support our My Fit series of programs.

How do I get started on MobileFit?
It’s easy to get started using MobileFit by registering for one of the three My Fit programs: SmartStart, Healthy Eating or Personal Training. Coaches will enroll participants during their first session.

How can I access MobileFit once I am enrolled?
Choose one of the many options to access MobileFit; there are touchscreens in your local branch; to print a custom workout and log your results: download the MobileFit App for free on an iPhone; access MobileFit from other smart phones through mymobilefit.com; or access on your iPad or tablet.


Boot Camp/Advanced H.I.I.T. (High Intensity Interval Training)

This high intensity group exercise class will take you to the next fitness level. It incorporates TRX bands, free weights, sprinting, resistance bands, medicine balls and more. This four-week program is designed to get you in shape and lose weight.

Get one-on-one fitness training with a nationally certified trainer. Looking for an advantage? Personal training is designed to evaluate, motivate, and educate so that you can take your workout to the next level. Your trainer will provide motivation to help you meet your goal; whether it is training for a sport, getting ready for a special event, or improving your health, personal training will help you meeting your goal.
