The Downtown YMCA has been a cornerstone in Columbia’s community for over 150 years. With six floors of exercise equipment, aquatics, an extensive group exercise schedule, men’s and women’s training areas, and much more, the Downtown YMCA is ideal for the fitness minded.

Holiday Challenge

Holiday Challenge is a high-intensity group exercise class that will help you attack those holiday calories! High energy, intense cardio and strength training is guaranteed to get you ahead of the Christmas and New Year’s calorie assault. Easy-to-follow step moves, plyometric moves, circuit training, jump rope, running drills, abdominal work and push-ups will get you ready for the new year! These classes are appropriate for all fitness levels.

Monday, December 21, 5:30-7 p.m.
Monday, December 28, 5:30-7 p.m.

YMCA Members – $5 for 1 class, $8 for both
Non-members – $10 for 1 class, $17 for both

Winter Break Camp @ Lexington Y

Bring your kids to the Y over winter break! We’ll discover new things while participating in holiday-themed activities. Camp will be held at the Lexington Family YMCA with a drop-off and pickup location at the Downtown YMCA. Lunch and a snack will be provided. Please bring a water bottle.

Two week camp: December 21-30, 2015 (except December 24-25 & December 31-January 1)

Ages: 5-12

Preregistration is required to attend.

Times: Drop off 7 -8:15 a.m. (bus departs at 8:30 a.m.) and pick up 5-6:15 p.m. (bus will arrive between 4:30 and 5 p.m.)

Cost: $115 members/$155 non-members

Registration: Closes December 19.

Adult Flag Football

Lace up the football shoes and grab some friends and get a team together! You’re sure to have fun in this this fast-paced, values-based competitive league. This is a co-ed league for ages 17 & up. Each team is allowed between 7 and 14 players on the roster. Flags are provided. Team registration available only, full payment due at registration. Games played on Saturdays.

Ages: 17 & up

Registration: November 7-December 14 (online registration closes December 12)

Season: December 12, 2015-February 13, 2016

Cost: $375 per team

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a free, 12-week, small group program designed for adult cancer survivors.

This program fulfills the important need of supporting cancer survivors in our community. They will work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to safely achieve their goals such as building strength; increasing flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem. By focusing on the whole person and not the disease, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is helping people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body.

This program is free to participants and is funded by generous donors to the YMCA’s Annual Campaign.

Fit Camp

This high intensity group exercise class will take you to the next fitness level. High energy, intense cardio and strength training is guaranteed to boost your energy and metabolism to new heights. This four-week program is designed to get you in shape and lose weight and is appropriate for all fitness levels.

30+ Adult Basketball League

Here’s your chance to dust off your basketball shoes and come out the new Downtown YMCA’s 30+ Basketball League! Our goal in the adult sports leagues is to provide a perfect opportunity to be active, social and reconnect or start fresh with a sport you love. See you at Tip-Off!

Ages: 3 – 12 years

These lessons follow the YMCA of the USA Progressive Swim Lesson Program. There are six levels of progressively challenging YMCA swim classes covering all strokes and safety skills. Lessons are offered during the weekdays as well as the weekends.

The purpose of the Y Swim Lessons Program is to develop competency in swimming along with confidence and endurance.  The goals of the program are to teach personal safety, personal growth and stroke development in a values-based environment.  Your child will be advanced to the next level only when he or she proficiently and safely performs the skills within his or her level. We teach individually to each child to advance their skills. We expect each child to learn and progress at his or her own rate.

Registration: Registration for weekday lessons opens three Thursdays prior to session start date for members and two Thursdays prior to session start date for non-members. Registration for Saturday lessons opens three weeks before session start date for members and two weeks for non-members.

Home School Swim and Gym

Ages: 4-14

The Home School Swim & Gym program is a great way to work physical activity, healthy living, socialization and play into your homeschool curriculum. The goal of swim and gym classes for students is to have planned individual and cooperative physical activity and fitness assessments promoting the students’ optimum physical, mental, emotional, and social development. Participants will also learn sports and swimming skills while developing social relationships.

Martial Arts

Dan Bernardo will be teaching the traditional Korean Martial Art of Tang Soo Do. Tang Soo Do is the Korean expression of Okinawan “Tode”, which is pronounced “Karate” in Japanese. Although the core of our curriculum is self-defense, we don’t just teach kicking and punching. Come learn traditional Korean Karate and set your GOALS high.

Adults (15 & up): Tuesday & Thursday, 7:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturday, 8:15-9:15 a.m.

Cost per month: $40 for YMCA members/$80 for non-members
Family discount: the 3rd and after participants from a family will receive a 50% discount

Private Lessons:
Four 30-minute sessions scheduled with the instructor.
