This tool is designed to assist parents in evaluating their child’s swimming skills. The YMCA will provide a quick swim evaluation during the first day of each swim session to ensure correct level placement for the child’s best learning environment. Please answer the questions below regarding your child’s swimming ability to place him or her in the correct class.

Note: Swimmers ages 13 and up can take adult swim lessons.

Lifeguard Certification Class

Do you want to become a YMCA-certified lifeguard? Now is your chance!

Days and Times:
Tuesday, August 4, 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday, August 5, 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Thursday, August 6, 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Class will give each participants skills to perform the duties that are required to be a lifeguard. Through e-learning, videos, classroom time, pool instruction, and hands on practice, participants will learn all rescue skills needed for a lifeguard job. Successful completion of the class will make participant certified in CPR, AED, Lifeguarding, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen. Participants must be a strong swimmer to participate.

Home School Swim and Gym

Home School Swim and Gym

Ages: 5-14

The home school swim and gym program is a great way to work physical activity, healthy living, socialization and play into your homeschool curriculum. The goal of swim and gym classes for students is to have planned individual and cooperative physical activity and fitness assessments promoting the students’ optimum physical, mental, emotional and social development. Participants will also learn sports and swimming skills while developing social relationships.

Sessions:
August 19-October 7
October 14-December 16 (will not meet on 11/25 for Thanksgiving)
January 6-February 24
March 2-April 27 (will not meet on 3/30 for Spring Break)

Day & Time: Wednesdays, 12:30-3 p.m.

Water Babies Swim Lessons

Ages: 6 Months to 36 Months + parents

The primary objective is to get both the parent and child comfortable in the water. The parent will learn how to be safe with the child in and around the water. The child will become aware of the differences between moving on the water an on dry land while the parent will become aware of how to teach his/her child to be safer in and around the water. Classes are designed to allow the child to have fun in the water while the parent guides him to learn aquatic skills. Cloth diaper with plastic pants or diapers manufactured for swimming use are required.

Adult Swim Lessons

Ages: 13 and up

The YMCA Adult Lesson plan offers an introduction to the water for those seeking to learn how to swim. The goal of these lessons is to make the adults competent, confident, and successful swimmers.

Youth Swim Lessons

Youth Swim Lessons

These lessons follow the YMCA of the USA Progressive Swim Lesson Program. There are six levels of progressively challenging YMCA swim classes covering all strokes, diving fundamentals and safety skills. Lessons are offered during the weekdays as well as the weekends.

The purpose of the Y Swim Lessons Program is to develop competency in swimming along with confidence and endurance.  The goals of the program are to teach personal safety, personal growth and stroke development in a values-based environment.  Your child will be advanced to the next level only when he or she proficiently and safely performs the skills within his or her level. We teach individually to each child to advance their skills. We expect each child to learn and progress at his or her own rate.

Registration: See below for registration dates for each session. Starting in Spring 2015, registration for weekday lessons opens three Thursdays prior to session start date for members and two Thursdays prior to session start date for non-members. Registration for Saturday lessons opens three weeks before session start date for members and two weeks for non-members.

Pike
This is an introductory swimming level class that helps children to adjust to the water and learn basic swimming movements as they progress toward swimming independently.

Eel
Building on PIKE skills, this level is for children who can independently swim at least five feet without a flotation device. Classes will focus on teaching progressive kick, arm, and breathing techniques.

Ray/Starfish
Building on EEL skills, this level is for children who are able to swim 15 feet independently without a flotation and with their face in the water with rhythmic breathing.

Register for 3-5 year olds
Youth:
Ages: 6-12

Polliwog
This class is for those who have little or no experience in the water. It gets children acquainted with the pool, the use of floatation devices, and front and back floating. By the end of this level, they should know the front and back crawl side stroke.

Guppy
Building on POLLIWOG skills, this level is for swimmers that are able to complete at least 15 yards of front and back crawl independently. Children will be performing more skills without a floatation device. Class will focus on progressive techniques for the front and back crawl,  side stroke, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, as well as some diving skills.

Minnow/Fish
Building on GUPPY skills, this level is for children able to swim 25 yards on front and back with rhythmic breathing, able to jump into the deep end of the pool and swim to the wall, front and back float for 20 seconds and treat water for 30 seconds. Class will focus on building swim endurance, enhancing stroke technique, and introducing breaststroke and butterfly movements.

Register for 6-12 year olds.

Swordfish Summer Swim Team

The Jeep Rogers Family YMCA Swordfish Summer Swim Team teaches the value of competition through teamwork, sportsmanship and doing one’s best. The swim team provides a competitive experience for boys and girls in the summer months. Swimmers improve their strokes and build their endurance under the guidance of an excellent coaching staff. The primary objective is FUN!

Ages: 4-18 years

Cost:
Members: $165
Non-members: 185
Discount for each additional sibling.

Season:
May 18-July 21, 2015
Weekly meets with a Championship meet at the end of the season.

Practice: Monday through Friday, between 7 and 9 a.m.

Masters Swim Team

Ages: 18 and up

Masters Swim Team provides organized workouts, competitions, clinics and workshops to adults interested in competitive swimming. The program is designed to improve and develop skills and fitness for all participants. Workouts are created by a qualified coach.

Practices: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30-6:30 a.m. and 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Cost: Free for members for a limited time.

Private Swim Lessons

One-on-one swim lessons with a trained swim instructor. Each 30-minute session is scheduled between the instructor and the participant.

Mudcats Year-Round Swim Team

Ages: 3 – 18 years (participation depends on ability level)

The YMCA is committed to offering a quality, year-round swim team with emphasis on teaching the value of competition through teamwork, sportsmanship and doing one’s best. The Jeep Rogers Family YMCA program strives to offer a well-rounded, values-centered program for every member, from the youngest and newest members to our veteran senior swimmers.

Bronze Swimmers

For a beginning competitive swimmer who can successfully complete the length of a 25-yard pool. Will work on the fundamentals of swimming, including freestyle and backstroke.

Cost:
Members: $55 / month

Practice: Tuesday & Thursday, 4:15-5:15 p.m.

Silver Swimmers

Competitive swimmers who are familiar with the four competitive strokes including butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and free style.

Gold Swimmers

Competitive swimmers who are familiar with the four competitive strokes and have intermediate technical ability and endurance. Will work on proper technique with time devoted to starts, turns and competitive training.

Practice: Monday, Wednesday & Friday, 4:15-5:15 p.m. and Saturday, 7:30-8:30 a.m. (only Saturdays when there are no swim meets)

Junior High Level

Competitive swimmers with a moderate to excellent understanding of the four competitive strokes and are beginning to develop a high level of endurance. The group’s focus is on all competitive strokes, starts, and turns for refinement while aerobic training is developed. The group is designed for top younger swimmers and will be devoted to preparing them for the next level of competitive swimming.

Members: $75 / month

Practice: Monday, Wednesday & Friday, 4:30-5:15 p.m. (dry land); Monday through Friday, 5:15-7:15 p.m. (pool time); Saturday, 8:30-10:30 a.m. (only Saturdays when there are no swim meets)

Senior High Level

Competitive swimmers with an excellent understanding of the four strokes, a high level of endurance and a competitive drive. The group’s focus is on all competitive strokes, starts and turns for refinement. Proper training techniques are introduces to prepare swimmers for advanced levels of competition.
