Under the direction of the Youth Development Director, Afterschool Counselors will provide day-to-day direction and supervision of assigned program locations. Staff will manage groups of children ages 4-12 and leading small and large group interest clubs and homework help. Staff will uphold the standard of ensuring that all programs operate in a quality manner consistent with the Y mission, cause and values. Program locations include Richland One Elementary schools located in Columbia and Hopkins, as well as Lexington One.
1. Plans, coordinates, organizes and leads all daily after school program activities. 2. Observes and follows the School Age Child Care program guidelines. 3. Complies with all Association and branch specific policies and procedures. 4. Performs general housekeeping tasks and ensures that site and program areas are clean and well organized. 5. Fosters an environment, which includes the five YMCA character development values of respect, responsibility, caring, honesty, and faith. 6. Identifies and resolves problems to ensure programs are meeting goals of the program, reports unresolved issues to the Youth Development Director. 7. Works additional hours as needed when there is a half day of school, school closing or vacation day. 8. Attends all staff meetings and training programs. 9. Follows all YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures. 10. 1. Demonstrated leadership qualities, project management, time management, organizational skills and detail oriented. 2. At least 16 years of age. 3. CPR, First Aid, AED, Oxygen and Child Abuse Prevention training before start of 1st shift.
Two to three years child care or related experience and relevant experience in supervision and administration of youth programs.
May be required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds in the form of program equipment or a small child. May be required to be outside for long periods of time. Must possess good analytical, auditory, verbal, and visual capabilities in order to adequately communicate via phone or in person.
Pay Rate: $10 an hour
Times and Dates: Typical schedule is 2pm-6pm Monday-Friday. times may vary on schools occasional early release/half days
