Under the direction of the Youth Development Director, Afterschool Counselors will provide day-to-day direction and supervision of Day Camp campers. Staff will manage groups of children ages 4-12 and lead group games, art/stem time, physical activity, and play. Staff will uphold the standard of ensuring that all programs operate in a quality manner consistent with the Y mission, cause and values. Staff will participate in weekly field trips and act as positive role models for youth.

 Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

• Organize and lead a variety of activities for summer camp programs. • Ensure that site is kept clean and organized. • Keep site and sound supervision and accurate head counts of group at all times. • Assist children in daily needs including but not limited to washing hands, using the restroom, picking up belongings, assisting with snacks and packing or unpacking of belongings. • Ensure parents/guardians comply with drop off and pick up procedures. – Complete incident reports when needed.

 Required Qualifications: 

1. Must be at least 16 years old. 2. CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention training before start of 1st shift. 3. Ability to lead, plan, organize and implement program activities. 4. Must be able to improvise when unexpected circumstances occur. 5. Must be able to remain active, energetic and positive throughout the program day. 6. Must be able to attend mandatory summer camp training May 30-June 2, 2023.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Two to three years child care or related experience and relevant experience in supervision and administration of youth programs.

Physical Demands: 

May be required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds in the form of program equipment or a small child. May be required to be outside for long periods of time. Must possess good analytical, auditory, verbal, and visual capabilities in order to adequately communicate via phone or in person. Lead and participate in recreation activities which may include running, throwing and kicking. Able to lift up to 50 lbs. in program equipment, tables, etc.

 

Pay Rate: $10/HR

Work dates and times: Training: May 30-June 2, 2023

Shifts Monday-Friday June 5-July 28 between 6:45am-6:15pm
