Under the direction of the Youth Development Director, Afterschool Counselors will provide day-to-day direction and supervision of assigned program locations. Staff will manage groups of children ages 4-12 and lead group games, art/stem time, and help with homework. Staff will uphold the standard of ensuring that all programs operate in a quality manner consistent with the Y mission, cause and values.

 Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

1. Plans, coordinates, organizes and leads all daily after school program activities. 2. Observes and follows the School Age Child Care program guidelines. 3. Complies with all Association and branch specific policies and procedures. 4. Performs general housekeeping tasks and ensures that site and program areas are clean and well organized. 5. Fosters an environment, which includes the five YMCA character development values of respect, responsibility, caring, honesty, and faith. 6. Identifies and resolves problems to ensure programs are meeting goals of the program, resports unresolved issues to the Youth Development Director. 7. Works additional hours as needed when there is a half day of school, school closing or vacation day. 8. Attends all staff meetings and training programs. 9. Follows all YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.

 Required Qualifications: 

1. Two to three years child care or related experience and relevant experience in supervision and administration of youth programs. 2. Demonstrated leadership qualities, project management, time management, organizational skills and detail oriented. 3. At least 16 years of age. 4. CPR, First Aid, AED, Oxygen and Child Abuse Prevention training before start of 1st shift.

Physical Demands: 

Ability to frequently stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, type, run, jump, kick, catch, throw, climb, kneel, bend, reach, balance, crouch or crawl, reach with hands and arms, handle or feel, stoop, lift/move and carry approximately 35 lbs, and use hands and fingers.

Pay Rate: $9.00 an hour

Days and Hours:

Typical schedule 2-6pm Monday through Friday, with varied hours for early release and school out days. Hours may vary
