Last month, the YMCA Association of Columbia was proud to host Livestrong instructors from around the entire state of South Carolina to discuss the Livestrong program, receive additional training, and strategize how to best continue serving the cancer community.

Livestrong is a 12-week physical activity program designed to serve each individual survivor and help get them back on their feet. The program offers customized exercise regimens catered to survivors’ individual needs from certified fitness instructors. The instructors are trained in cancer survivorship, post-rehabilitation exercise and supportive cancer care. Yale University and Dana Farber Cancer Institute’s research found that participants experienced significant increases in physical activity, overall quality of life and fitness performance as well as decreases in cancer-related fatigue.

The YMCA Association of Columbia is proud to partner with Livestrong, and proud to be offering Livestrong sessions in 4 of our 5 locations across the Midlands.

Upcoming Livestrong Sessions:

  • NorthWest Family YMCA (Irmo): Sept. 26-Dec. 14 from 6:00-7:30 pm (Tuesdays & Thursdays)
  • Downtown YMCA: Oct. 2-Dec. 18 from 6:30-7:30 pm (Mondays & Wednesdays)
  • Ballentine YMCA: January 2024
