Aug. 15, 2023 –  We’ve got big news!  The renovations to the Jeep Rogers Y Natatorium and pool start Saturday, Aug. 19!  There is much to be done, but when we’re finished, our pool will be a whole new experience for swimmers and spectators.

The pool will be closed Saturday, Aug. 19 thru Mid-September.

  • Parking area next to the pool will be closed. Open to contractors only.
  • Drain the pool and safely shut down operating systems.
  • Demolition of the interior pool work.

  • Pull down current duct work and replace grill covers.
  • Bring in scaffolding and start installation of sprinkler heads.

Early September

  • Repair plaster and tiles inside the pool.
  • Replace the ADA lift.
  • Start installation of new duct work/sox.

Early to Mid-September

  • Begin window repairs.
  • Deep clean and pressure wash in preparation for reopening.

We’re extremely excited to get started with this renovation!  Our top priority is to provide members and guests with a safe and enjoyable environment where you can meet your health and fitness goals.

How long will the pool be closed? When can we swim again?  Due to the nature of the project, we are unable to provide an exact reopen date. We thank you for your patience and support that has allowed us to re-invest over $500,000 back into our YMCA. Once open, you will appreciate the level of cleanliness, comfort, and safety in our pool area. Please visit, call us or email us at [email protected] for an updated timeframe. Thank you for your membership!

Why is the pool closed?  We are replacing the dehumidification unit and refinishing the pool surface. Once complete, the air will feel much more comfortable, and the pool will look like new again. We want our swimmers, class participants, and students back in our pool as soon as possible and can’t wait to see you again.

Will my dues be prorated?  We understand that many of you come to enjoy our pool, however this is a great opportunity to switch up your fitness routine and try something new! We encourage you to try some great Group Fitness Class alternatives like chair yoga, dancing, and stretching.  Many of our active older adults also enjoy pickleball. We have eight brand new courts!

Don’t forget about our steam room, sauna, indoor walking track and wellness center. Earlier this year we purchased brand new cardio equipment. Ask our Wellness Director Kirsten Coats to help you with an alternative routine that will help you reach your fitness goals.

And remember, your membership is good at any YMCA of Columbia location. You are welcome to visit our Northwest YMCA in Irmo to get your aquatic workout in.

What about the Swim Lessons?

Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer swim lessons during this time. Anyone who has unused swim lesson sessions will be issued a credit.  You can redeem these credits at any time once the pool reopens.

What about Swim Team? Please contact Mudcat Swim Team Director, Barry Neville OR  (803) 407-8007.
