YMCA of Columbia and PalmettoPride Team Up for Midlands Clean Up
Columbia, SC (March 2019) – YMCA of Columbia is doing their part for the environment. Join your
local YMCA as they help keep our Midlands roadways clean of litter and debris on Saturday, April 13
from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
“The YMCA of Columbia continually strives to be a leader in community service. Through the hard work
of our volunteers we are able to strengthen the Midlands by promoting youth development, healthy
living and social responsibility,” said Bill Price, CEO of YMCA of Columbia.
YMCA of Columbia locations that will be participating include:
Ballentine Family YMCA – 1079 Dutch Fork Road, Irmo, SC 29063
Downtown Columbia YMCA – 1447 Hampton Street, Columbia, SC 29201
Jeep Rogers Family YMCA – 900 Lake Carolina Drive, Columbia, SC 29229
Northwest Family YMCA – 1501 Kennerly Road, Irmo, SC 29063

Plan to meet at your local YMCA location at 8:00 a.m. to check in and gather your supplies before
going out to pick up. There will also be a quick safety briefing.
“Togetherhood is the Y’s membership-led service program,” said Price. “Togetherhood projects rally Y
members and their neighbors to work together to give back and transform the community we all share.
Please join this engaged group of volunteers to truly make a difference as we clean up our roadways,
TOGETHER!”
This pickup is open to anyone, with or without a YMCA membership as well as participants of all ages,
but children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult during roadside pickup. Show your pride by
volunteering to help keep your community beautiful and litter-free. Consistent litter cleanup leads to
less litter over time.
“We love doing beautiful things across South Carolina and are excited to partner with Midlands area
YMCAs to clean up this part of the state. Thank you in advance to those volunteering; we look forward
to helping you work towards a litter-free South Carolina,” said Keep South Carolina Beautiful Director,
Mallory Coffey.
PalmettoPride encourages individuals across the state to take greater responsibility for their local
environment by conducting grassroots community service projects that engage volunteers, local
businesses and civic leaders.
