The YMCA of Columbia is happy to announce that Barry Neville joined our team as the new Competitive Swimming Director and Head Coach of the YMCA of Columbia Swim Club (Mudcats) on Monday, Oct. 18.
Barry comes to us from the North YMCA in Davenport, IA where he was the Aquatics Director and Head Coach. He has over 30 years of experience with various programs. He has coached 29 YMCA National, 157+ Sectional & Junior National, 31+ Senior National, and 2 Olympic Trial qualifiers. Over 73 of his former swimmers have gone on to swim in college.
Barry is a University of Iowa graduate, and American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) Level 4 Coach (top 8% of coaches in the country). He has received ASCA’s Excellence in Coaching Certification.
Barry’s extensive career includes leadership aquatics and coaching positions in Goldsboro (NC), Brookings (SD), Topeka (KS), Champaign (IL), Buffalo (NY), Huntington (WV), and Coralville (IA). While attending the University of Iowa, Barry served as an assistant coach with the Women’s Swim Team.
Barry has won several Iowa Senior Championships, and was named Iowa Senior Coach of the Year.
