Remember the thrill of recess — that sweet escape from class, where fun and friendly competition reigned supreme? This summer, it’s making a comeback, just for adults!
The Northwest Family YMCA is excited to bring you The Recess League, a six-week adult recreational sports league that’s all about playing hard, laughing harder, and reconnecting with the joy of backyard games. Open to adults ages 18 and up, The Recess League is your chance to relive the best parts of childhood — without the school bell.
What Is The Recess League?
Each Wednesday night from July 16 through August 20, participants will gather at the Northwest Y for a new backyard-style sport every week. No matter your skill level, this is your opportunity to get moving, meet new people, and have a blast competing in a low-pressure, high-fun environment.
Weekly Game Lineup:

Week 1 (7/16): Kickball

Week 2 (7/23): Wiffleball

Week 3 (7/30): Pickleball

Week 4 (8/6): Volleyball

Week 5 (8/13): Spikeball

Week 6 (8/20): Dodgeball
Games will kick off between 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM each Wednesday. Final team rosters and schedules will be released on Monday, July 14.
A League for Everyone
The Recess League is all about variety — and everyone gets in on the action. Every participant will play every sport. For pair-based games like Pickleball and Spikeball, teams will divide into duos and face off for the win.
Whether you’re a lifelong athlete or just looking for a fun way to stay active, The Recess League is for any adult who enjoys playful competition in a welcoming, social setting.
Keep the Fun Going After the Game
The fun doesn’t stop when the last point is scored! Each night ends with a post-game social at Lucky’s Burger Shack, where you can relax, refuel, and relive the highlights of the night’s matchups with your teammates and new friends.
Registration Details
Ready to jump in? You can register as an individual, with a partner, or as part of a full team. If signing up with others, be sure to list your teammate names when you register.
