We would like to officially welcome Coach Mackenzie Shannon into a new role with the Columbia YMCA! Mackenzie has already been a part of the Jeep Rogers Y and swim team coaching; her roles will now expand as our Assistant Swim Team Director! Please take a minute to read a greeting from Coach Mackenzie and get to know her a little better.
Hello Mudcats Family,
I am so excited to be joining the Mudcats team full time! This season, I have had the pleasure of coaching the Bronze group and helping with the other groups as needed. Additionally, I coach the Soda City Swarm Masters team at Jeep.
Swimming has been a part of my life since I learned to swim at my local YMCA. At the age of 7, I began swimming and grew up swimming for the Florence Area Swim Team (FAST) in Florence, SC. I continued my swimming career at Columbia College, where I qualified for the 2020 NAIA Nationals with my team as a relay swimmer. In 2021, I graduated with a BA in Communication.
My love for coaching started in 2017 when I began coaching for a Summer League team in Florence. And I coached a team every summer since then. I can not wait to continue to grow and share my swimming knowledge with current and future Mudcats.
Welcome Mackenzie! We are glad to have you as our Assistant Swim Team Director! Please feel free to contact Mackenzie to welcome her or with swim team questions:
