What's Happening at the Y

Winter Pre-Season Basketball Clinic

Fundamental clinic for kids with former 8-time NBA All-Star, basketball hall of famer, NBA scoring champion and Denver Nuggets all-time leading scorer Alex English. Each participants will get quality instruction, a t-shirt and a meal.

Performance Training for Kids

Our Youth Sports Performance curriculum is an 8-week program designed to teach proper running technique, coordination, agility and strength as a foundation to improving overall performance for young athletes. The program also teaches the benefits of injury prevention and flexibility in their sport of choice. Each session will contain new and exciting ways to keep your child focused and having fun. Equipment used: ladders, parachutes, plyo boxes, vertical jump tester, sleds and more! Qualified staff will be instructing.

Cost: $85 members/$100 non-members for 8 classes per session

Kids Culinary Class

YMCA Afterschool and WT Café are partnering to bring culinary classes to the Jeep Rogers Y! The program includes 4 classes: Reading Nutritional Labels, How to Make an Easy Afternoon Snack, Baking is a Science, and Let’s Prepare a Meal (and let the parents come try the food!). Parents will be invited at the end of each session so they may sample/taste what the children in class have learned to prepared. Classes will be divided into one-hour classes by age group.

Cost: $45 for afterschool participants/$50 for non-afterschool participants (includes meal for each class)

K – 2nd grade: 4:30-5:30 p.m.
3rd grade and up: 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the Pumpkin Run will support the YMCA’s Annual Campaign to make the Y available to everyone through scholarships and financial assistance.

Morning Mayhem

Do you need a serious routine overhaul? Are you looking for a way to get your day started right? Come join our Morning Mayhem boot camp style workout three mornings a week! Let Sarah and Jeremy jumpstart your day with a high intensity workout sure to get your blood pumping! All fitness levels welcome!

Members: $50 per month, registration is ongoing

Ages: 15+

Days: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays

Time: 5:30 to 6:30 a.m.


Youth Flag Football

Ages: 3 – 14

Designed to help your child learn the game of football and have lots of fun while doing it! Players will learn the fundamentals of football, both offensive and defensive strategies. During the games players will have the opportunity to play different positions. Everyone gets to play a minimum of half the game.

This program provides young players a fun and exciting opportunity to engage in non-contact, continuous action while learning lessons in teamwork and sportsmanship. Participants in each age group will be divided into teams led by volunteer parents. Program includes one practice per week and Saturday games. All players are recommended to wear a mouth guard.

Registration: thru October 26, 2014
(There is a $15 late registration fee)

Season: Practice starts week of November 10; games played November 22 – January 17, 2015

Home School Swim and Gym

Ages: 4-16

Home schooled youth can enjoy the many opportunities the Y has to offer also. Certified, passionate, and enthusiastic instructors will teach your child more fundamentals of physical activities with lessons involving team concepts, sports development, and so much more. The program will follow core values of the Y (caring, respect, responsibility, honesty, and faith).

Y-Club Afterschool Program

The Y-Club Afterschool Program is a fun place to be with lots of positive staff interaction and learning opportunities. We provide a healthy afterschool snack, physical fitness time, homework help and a wide variety of other activities, including STEM and time to socialize with friends or play games.

Hours: School dismissal – 6:15 p.m.

Ages: Kindergarten – 8th grade

Weekly Cost: $45 members/$60 non-members

When there is a half day at school, we will still hold afterschool and pick up the children from school. School in-service days and student holidays are included in regular weekly fees, except for holiday breaks (Winter Break and Spring Break) are registered and paid for separately.

It is a multi-step program to meet your needs, whether for fitness, inspiration or nutrition. We’ll help you develop life-promoting habits. Powered by MobileFit! A new, easy-to-use system to help you reach your health goals.

SmartStart:

Among the various fitness programs offered at the YMCA of Columbia, SmartStart stands out by taking a unique approach to being more healthy. These one on one sessions combine nutritional information and fitness with coach support to encourage participants to meet their goals. 3 sessions: FREE

Healthy Eating:

Healthy Eating includes three sessions with a Healthy Living Coach to identify potential roadblocks to healthy eating. Participants learn how to use the MobileFit Nutrition application to track calories, nutrition, water consumption and will also learn how to use www.choosemyplate.gov to support healthy eating. 3 sessions: $49

Personal Training:

Get one-on-one fitness training with a nationally certified trainer. Designed to evaluate, motivate, and educate so that you get the most out of every workout. Your trainer will provide motivation to help you meet your goal, train for a sport, get ready for a special event, or just increase your level of health. Our qualified trainers will evaluate your current fitness level and design a specific program for you based on your goals. For new personal training participants only. 3 sessions: $99

How do I get started on MobileFit?
It’s easy to get started using MobileFit by registering for one of the three My Fit programs: SmartStart, Healthy Eating or Personal Training. Coaches will enroll participants during their first session.

How can I access MobileFit once I am enrolled?
Choose one of the many options to access MobileFit; there are touchscreens in your local branch; to print a custom workout and log your results: download the MobileFit App for free on an iPhone; access MobileFit from other smart phones through mymobilefit.com; or access on your iPad or tablet.
