What's Happening at the Y

Official Charity Partner of the Palmetto Half Marathon!

This year the YMCA of Columbia has been selected as an Official Charity Partner of the Palmetto Half Marathon on Saturday, April 11! Please use this code (anyone can use it!) while registering for the 5K or the 1/2 marathon to receive a $5 discount off the 5K and $10 discount off of the half marathon registration!

In just five years, The Palmetto Half Marathon has given $140,000 to local charities and ministries. $3 from each registration will be donated back to the YMCA of Columbia when the promo code is used at registration.

Go the Distance 12K Training

Have you previously completed the Couch to 5K program and are ready for the next level? One of our dedicated coaches help you with achieve this with a 10-week program that will take you from 3 miles to 7 1/2 miles (the distance of a 12K). Sign up today and take the first steps to going the distance! Program fees are included for the YMCA Festival of Roses held on May 2, 2015 in Orangeburg, SC.

Days/times: Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. for your shorter distances, Saturday mornings at 8:30 a.m. for your longer distances. Days and times can be changed by participant consensus.

Ages: 15 and up

Summer Youth Basketball

Basketball encourages team play and individual skill development while having fun. Participants will learn new skills and make friends along the way. Each team will practice once a week and play games once a week for an eight game season. Participants will receive a game jersey. Sign up at the front desk or online!

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a free, 12-week, small group program designed for adult cancer survivors.

This program fulfills the important need of supporting cancer survivors in our community. They will work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to safely achieve their goals such as building strength; increasing flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem. By focusing on the whole person and not the disease, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is helping people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body.

This program is free to participants and is funded by generous donors to the YMCA’s Annual Campaign.

Locations: Downtown YMCA, NorthWest Family YMCA in Irmo, Jeep Rogers Family YMCA at Lake Carolina

Spring Break Camp

Drop off starts at 7 a.m. and pick-up by 6 p.m.

Let your child join us at the Y for camp while school is out. Children will discover new things while participating in fun-themed activities.

Performance Training for Kids

Our Youth Sports Performance curriculum is a 4-week program designed to teach proper running technique, coordination, agility and strength as a foundation to improving overall performance for young athletes. The program also teaches the benefits of injury prevention and flexibility in their sport of choice. Each session will contain new and exciting ways to keep your child focused and having fun. Equipment used: ladders, parachutes, plyo boxes, vertical jump tester, sleds and more! Certified personal trainers will be instructing.

Cost: $85 members/$100 non-members for 8 classes per session

Home School Swim and Gym

Ages: 4-16

Home schooled youth can enjoy the many opportunities the Y has to offer also. Certified, passionate, and enthusiastic instructors will teach your child more fundamentals of physical activities with lessons involving team concepts, sports development, and so much more. The program will follow core values of the Y (caring, respect, responsibility, honesty, and faith).

Y-Club Afterschool Program

The Y-Club Afterschool Program is a fun place to be with lots of positive staff interaction and learning opportunities. We provide a healthy afterschool snack, physical fitness time, homework help and a wide variety of other activities, including STEM and time to socialize with friends or play games.

Hours: School dismissal – 6:15 p.m.

Ages: Kindergarten – 8th grade

Weekly Cost: $45 members/$60 non-members

When there is a half day at school, we will still hold afterschool and pick up the children from school. School in-service days and student holidays are included in regular weekly fees, except for holiday breaks (Winter Break and Spring Break) are registered and paid for separately.
