Adrian Peterson, former NFL player with the Chicago Bears, spoke at the YMCA of Columbia and Palmetto Center for Women’s Annual Prayer breakfast on Friday morning, May 9, 2014.
Peterson is both an award-winning NFL player and a disabled person who has had a long, hard journey living with a stutter. Peterson travels the nation sharing his story of faith and how a difficult speech disability motivated him to fight harder to reach his life goals. The YMCA of Columbia and the LIVESTRONG® Foundation have joined together to create LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a physical activity and well-being program designed to help adult cancer survivors achieve their holistic health goals. The YMCA of Columbia kicked off its pilot program on Tuesday at the Downtown YMCA.
The research-based program offers people affected by cancer a safe, supportive environment to participate in physical and social activities focused on strengthening the whole person. DJ Rish to compete in sprint triathlon one year after his near fatal accident
It’s been nearly one year since DJ Rish was involved in a near fatal van accident in Greenville, S.C. while returning from a Boy Scout trip. He suffered second and third degree burns over 60% of his body, a vertebral and right hip fracture, and an amputated left leg. DJ spent five weeks at the burn center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta before being discharged four weeks ahead of schedule.

The YMCA of Columbia is commemorated its 100th year at 1420 Sumter Street in 2011. A series of events celebrated the impact the Y has made on the community. The first of these is the hanging of a collection of photographs and memorabilia that archive the history of the YMCA of Columbia.
